Nakasendo Highway Walking Tour

This 10 night, 11 day, walking tour highlights the ancient Nakasendo highway that once linked the Shogun's capital Edo (modern Tokyo) to the imperial capital, Kyoto, while immersing you in Japanese culture and life. It includes some of the most scenic and pleasant walking sections of this road that ran through mountainous central Japan. Walking through picturesque former post towns, meeting locals along the way, this tour takes you along the beautiful Kiso valley. Walking from village to village we also enjoy the hospitality and delicious meals served at traditional Japanese inns. Some of these inns have been in the same family for several generations and you can get a real sense of history while staying at them. This tour contrasts old and modern Japan as well as the urban and rural sides of this fascinating country and suited for people who enjoy walking for distances of between 12 km (7.5 miles) and 23 km (14.3 miles) per day with a light day rucksack.
