This guided 14 day, 13 night, tour showcases the best that Japan has to offer. Of course, there are the must see destinations – the bustling modernity of Tokyo contrasting with the cultural capital of Kyoto, Hiroshima, reborn after its devastation by an atomic bomb, and the port of Nagasaki, once the main entrypoint to Japan for foreign traders and travellers. At the same time, there is an opportunity to explore the Japanese countryside, walking along a beautiful section of the historic Nakasendo highway, past stunning scenery and through rural former post towns. Along the way, we enjoy the hospitality and delicious cuisine of ancient inns. From bullet trains and bustling cities to temples and tranquil gardens this tour is ideal for those who want to see Japan as it is today and get a glimpse of its past.

A boat ride across Lake Ashi leads us to a series of ropeway gondolas up over the top of Mt Hakone. On a clear day, spectacular views of Mt Fuji can be had from here.
